Freshman Year: Check!

I can still remember how sick to my stomach I felt on that last morning at home. I held back tears saying goodbye to my dog. I held back tears saying goodbye to my grandmother. I even held back tears saying goodbye to my brother. MY BROTHER. (If you couldn't tell, I'm not the type of person who is inclined to share their feelings or show any sort of emotion other than sarcasm. Which isn't even an emotion.)

The drive down was the shortest 2 hours and 15 minutes of my life. I had gone from a place full of comfort and familiarity to one of complete and utter strangeness. This was it. This was college.

Move in day was a rush of activity. And by rush I mean blur. And by blur I mean what even happened the day went by so quickly. Before I knew it, I was unsuccessfully holding back tears as I said goodbye to my mom, dad, and sister. Good thing I was wearing sunglasses.

And that was that. Freshman year had officially begun. The first couple of weeks were filled with fake smiles, awkward silences, and over-enthusiastic activity involvement. I soon adjusted to life as a college student. What I meant to say was, I soon adjusted to devoting my entire day to school and homework and subsequently spending my nights crying, watching Netflix, and drinking hot chocolate. (The crying stopped, obviously. Everything else is pretty much the same.)

Now, with roughly 2 weeks left to go, I can't believe how fast my time as a college freshman has flown by. (I know that's a painfully cliche thing to say, but sometimes painful cliches are the only way to get your message across. I also feel like I'm using a lot of parenthetical asides.)

I've learned and achieved a lot this past year. I've pulled through MANY stressful situations, I've done MANY adult things, and I've met MANY different people. Could I be more vague? Well, I'm glad I asked that question for you. The answer is YES. I've also done MANY cool THINGS that MAY or MAY not have been difficult, fun, exciting, and/or scary. *high fives self*

In all seriousness, though, there have been a few things that I can say I'm relieved to have figured out. I declared my major (Literature with a Writing Emphasis), I found a place to live next year and don't have to do ANY housing paperwork (!!!!!), and I secured a summer job for myself. Things are looking up for me at this point, and I can say that I'm somewhat sorta kinda maybe possibly excited for next school year.

Sorta.

Cheers to a long, hot summer!

Here is my face. And a pile of branches sitting in a creek in the background. Because SELFIE OR DIE! Amiright?
